This week we enjoyed the final workshop of our ‘Storytelling Lumsden’ project. Beth Bidwell lead the group with a morning of decorating ceramic tiles. Beth works with SSW on a freelance basis and has her personal studio based within the workshop. She specialises in hand-built sculptural vessels and has a great knowledge of hand-made glazes.
For this workshop Beth showed participants a range of techniques and mark making, in order to illustrate our chosen stories. We started by rolling out and forming our tiles before moving on to decoration. We experimented with different coloured slips to paint on the tiles and used ceramic tools to draw and depict our ideas.
The finished tiles were enriched with the local stories the group arrived with and looked fantastic. The work has been left to dry out and will soon be fired in the SSW kilns.
‘Storytelling Lumsden’ aims to gather, share and map the stories of the residents of Lumsden. We are still looking to gather stories and would love to hear from you if you have a story to share. Please get in touch by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
