May 2016 Group Emerging Artist in Residency (4 places available)
Dates of residency: 9th of May – 6th June 2016
Cost: £370 per month
Application deadline: 5pm 28th of March 2016
The Group EA Residency in May is specifically for BA graduate students who graduated in 2015. (Please note, there are also a limited number of individual EA Residencies available during the months of the SSW AiR programme. More info on these are available on the SSW website)
The Group Emerging Artist programme offers an opportunity to network with peers outside the educational establishments. The programme focuses on establishing professional practice within a residential setting, with graduates at the same stage of development. The mix of experiences from undergraduate programmes and expansion from known norms helps solidify progress after a break from undergraduate/postgraduate programmes, giving time and space away from the everyday to assess and contextualise your practice.
As with the SSW AiR programme, residents are asked to give an introductory talk regarding their practice, inspirations, backgrounds. This offers an opportunity for others to learn about your work, and for further independent dialogue during your stay. There will also be at least one studio presentation during the residency, and a small concluding open studio display on the last day.
This programme is open to artists working in any medium, but proposals should demonstrate how the location and/or facilities of SSW will benefit their work. Materials and consumables are subject to further charges. Access to all areas, including the foundry, are available to the artists, and the artist will be provided with self-catering accommodation, studio space, access to facilities and basic technical assistance.
SSW is happy to support artists in leading community activities – either with the SSW or local residents. Please enquire with the programme manager for further information.
