Join Scottish Sculpture Workshop on Saturday 31st August for our Summer Celebration Event. SSW will be hosting a range of free activities from 10am onwards:
10am Iron Casting Scratch Blocks
Design your own cast iron tile by carving out your design inresin-cast sand. Tiles will be poured in the afternoon and can be taken home on the day*. £12 per 6″ x 6″ tile.
11am – 4pm Community Cafe
SSW welcomes back Kelly M. Anderson, who will be serving refreshments in the Communities Room.
12pm Lighting of the Ceramic Pit FIre
Everyone is welcome to contribute work to the pitfire. It will need to be kiln dried and submitted by 10am on the day for packing into the pit.
1.30pm – 4.30pm Sculpture Workshop with Henry Coombes
Inspired by the local landscape, join Natural Bennachie artist Henry Coombes in creating collaborative sculptures. For all ages.
5pm Live Iron Pour
Watch the process of iron casting, as the SSW technicians pour the tiles created earlier*.
6pm Music & BBQ
While chomping down on some tasty grub, enjoy live music from local performers.
Rhynie Man Iron Smelting
As part of the recent Pictish excavations in Rhynie, SSW has been exploring the historical process of bloomery iron. After firing during the day, the bloomery furnace will be opened in the evening.
*NB: in the case of rain, casting may be postponed.
