As part of the Aberdeen Granite Festival 2013, Scottish Sculpture Workshop (SSW) have invited visual artist Sean Lynch to be in residency in Aberdeen City from 22 – 27 July, supported by Vibrant Aberdeen.
For the third annual Granite Festival held in Aberdeen, SSW is delighted to again be partnering with the granite industry and Aberdeen Galleries and Museums, in hosting a week of activity celebrating the natural resource from which the city draws its’ heritage. This year we are extremely pleased to introduce international artist Sean Lynch to the programme, enabled through the support of the Vibrant Aberdeen programme. Sean Lynch will be in residence at SSW and in the city itself, creating a new body of research and production through the exploration of granite, its associations, uses and implementation; he will be particularly focusing on the city’s architecture and masonry industry.
There will be opportunities for all to get involved with hands-on workshops and activities, including walks through the city with Lynch, trying your hand at polishing granite (the hardest rock in the world) courtesy of Fyfe Glenrock, and demonstrations of letter-cutting from A & J Robertson (Granite) Ltd.
