Resident Artist Nam Le’s Recent Work at SSW

Our resident artist and technical placement Nam Le has been making the most of his time here at SSW.

Nam creates forms based upon geometric patterns seen in nature. His structures usually appear to be growing towards light sources much like organic plant matter.

The piece he has chosen to construct while here at Scottish Sculpture Workshop is made out of layered plywood, so that as the sides of the structure are ground down, the structure reveals a build-up of hundreds of separate layers, denoting the process of growth over time.

Once the piece is complete, Nam intends to come back in later months and use the finished wooden piece to create a metal casting for outdoor display in a natural environment.
